Aurora SFC Fusion A5 Evolution: Speed and sensitivity without compromise

No unfulfilled promises, just unparalleled performance

The SFC Fusion A5 Evolution features a combination of improved pumping technology and a low noise, state of the art back pressure regulator, resulting in reduced baseline noise in UV detectors. Optimized instrument conditions result in a noise specification of 0.05 mAU or better, far exceeding any competitor’s offering, and allowing for true trace level analysis. This second generation module offers improved ruggedness and reliability, as well as enhanced features for full qualification in a GLP/GMP environment.

Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) has shown high potential for chiral separations. A normal phase chromatographic technique, SFC easily separates chiral compounds using many of the standard columns sold today, and does so faster, with greater efficiency and sensitivity. For many customers in the world of chiral analysis, supercritical fluid chromatography is the first choice, and a primary tool in their laboratory toolboxes for normal phase separations.

The analytical SFC system consists of the Agilent 1260 Analytical SFC LC and the Aurora SFC Fusion™ A5 Evolution for pre- and post- conditioning of CO2. The combination of both systems opens up new application areas including enantiomeric excess and trace level analysis.

Short analysis and equilibration times due to low mobile phase viscosity and superior diffusion characteristics are the major benefits of the new Aurora SFC Fusion A5 Evolution. Aurora SFC Systems provides upgrade kits which allow for full conversion of an Agilent 1100/1200 series HPLC to a complete analytical SFC system. With cost containment the focus of many companies, this approach reduces the overall cost of entry, and the means to repurpose instrumentation that may lie unused in the laboratory.

Considered a green technology, SFC is carbon dioxide neutral since CO2 is generally recovered from other industrial processes, and subsequently reused as the primary mobile phase. Beverage grade CO2 can be utilized with the SFC Fusion A5 Evolution. In addition, since primary alcohols are generally used as the modifier, no toxic or hazardous chemicals are present in the mobile phase. Additives are sometimes used to improve peak shape, but are present in very low concentrations. This reduces the overall cost of disposal and results in lower cost per analysis.

Whether analyzing chiral or achiral compounds, including sweeteners and preservatives, agricultural pesticides, or pharmaceutical compounds, the Aurora SFC Fusion A5 Evolution SFC provides for high throughput, low cost analyses, while maintaining a greener approach to normal phase chromatography.
